Some 60 British MPs and Peers have signed a letter to the UK’s Secretary of State for International Development Alistair Burt, urging him to take action to alleviate the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

The letter spoke of the dire humanitarian situation in the besieged coastal enclave, pointing to the fact that despite the UN predicting in 2012 that Gaza would be unliveable by 2020, Save The Children have declared the Strip unliveable now.

The parliamentarians called for the UK government to “use all diplomatic means – including multilateral forums such as the UN Human Rights Council and bilateral relations with Israel and the Palestinian Authority – to pursue accountability for all violations of international humanitarian law in the occupied Palestinian territory and bring an end to the closure of Gaza.”

Following receipt of the letter yesterday, Minister Burt pledged to provide an extra £1.9 million ($2.5 million) to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in the Strip, which he said would help some one million people.

Gaza is currently facing an energywater and healthcare crisis, such that residents are only receiving a maximum of two to four hours of electricity each day, making fresh water and sewage systems inoperable. An estimated 40 per cent of necessary medicines are also unavailable or will be depleted within a month, while patients requiring urgent treatment are prevented from leaving.

Last month, the Popular Committee Against the Siege on Gaza found that eight out of ten Gazans were living below the poverty line, with 44 per cent of the population unemployed.

Since the beginning of this month, the World Food Programme (WFP) has also put a stop to all food aid entering the Strip, affecting more than 35 humanitarian organisations, who protested at the suspension this week.

Egyptian authorities also backtracked on their promise to open the Rafah border to allow urgent medical aid into the Strip on Monday, after six soldiers were killed in the Sinai province.

Slapping 4th PSA on aged man’ a shameful act

Police detains Sheikh Mohammad Yousuf on political vengeance

Srinagar: The veteran octogenarian member of Jama’a-e-Islami Jammu & Kashmir and a famous social leader of Sopore Sheikh Mohammad Yousuf  has been detained fourth time by the local police under the draconian law of the Public Safety Act (PSA) despite the fact that the High court has quashed all the detention order imposed on him and passed strictures against the police as well as the detaining authority who without applying their minds judiciously have passed the orders mechanically as an act of vengeance and personal grudge against the victim whose two sons have already martyred, one by the army near Badamibagh Cantonment and another by some unknown gunmen. The police instead of trapping the killers of the innocent sons of  these old aged parents who have been left only with small orphaned kids of a slain son, started to harass and intimidate the victims of oppression for raising the voice against the perpetrators of the tyranny and apprehended this old man during the Burhan Wani public agitation and so far four orders of detention have been imposed upon him with two extensions in between since his first arrest despite the High court orders of declaring all these draconian orders as illegal having no justification. This act of Sopore police clearly vindicates that there is no rule of law in the valley and the court orders carry no weight before such police authorities ruling this unfortunate part of the globe and as such there is the Police Raj and the democracy is just in the law books having no force on the ground. This retributive policy of the police has rotten the whole atmosphere. A section of the police instead of performing its mandatory duty is bent upon crushing the fundamental and democratic rights of the hapless Kashmiri people. The police should have been public friendly but a group of it has degraded it in the eyes of the general masses only for securing the vested interests. Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir strongly denounces the imposition of 4th consecutive detention upon Sheikh Yousuf Saheb aged more than eighty years and calls this act as a personal vengeance against the victim of the lawlessness going on in the valley which is a blatant violation of the fundamental human rights. Jama’at appeals the international human rights bodies and Kashmir Bar Association to intervene in this matter to get justice and save this old man from the personal enmity of some police authorities misusing their position.

Al'Quraan

The woman and the man guilty of illegal sexual intercourse, flog each of them with a hundred stripes. Let not pity withhold you in their case, in a punishment prescribed by Allah, if you believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a party of the believers witness their punishment. (This punishment is for unmarried persons guilty of the above crime but if married persons commit it, the punishment is to stone them to death, according to Allah's Law).

Al'Quraan Surah Noor

Prophet Mohammad PBUH

Narrated: Abu Huraira (R.A) that a man said to the Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam: "Advise me! "The Prophet (PBUH) said, "Do not become angry and furious." The man asked (the same) again and again, and the Prophet said in each case, "Do not become angry and furious." [Al-Bukhari; Vol. 8 No. 137]
